The School of Allied Health Sciences, Walailak University, officially welcomed two Medical Laboratory Science students, Mr. Sean Michael Schumacher and Mr. Kyan Peterson, from the University of Kentucky, USA, who will undertake a two-month clinical placement at Walailak University Hospital (WUH) and its affiliated hospital from 2 July to 28 August 2026. The formal welcome session was held on 6 July 2026, marking the beginning of an exciting international clinical training experience under the long-standing academic collaboration between the two institutions.
The School of Allied Health Sciences sincerely thanks Assoc. Prof. Voravuth Somsak, Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences, for delivering a warm welcome to the visiting students and emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in developing globally competent medical laboratory professionals. Special appreciation is also extended to Asst. Prof. Sirirat Surinkeaw, Head of the Medical Technology International (MTI) Program, for introducing the MTI curriculum and international learning opportunities. The session was further honored by the presence of Assoc. Prof. Manit Nuinoon, Head of the Medical Technology Program, together with representatives from the School’s International Affairs, including Prof. Jitbanjong Tangpong and Asst. Prof. Suriyan Sukati, as well as many Medical Technology faculty members whose participation created a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for the students.
The School also expresses its sincere gratitude to the executive team of Walailak University Hospital, represented by Mr. Thitichai Boonrung, Acting Deputy Director, and Dr. Siriporn Korwiwatthanakan, Acting Deputy Director, for graciously welcoming the students and arranging an informative hospital tour. Special thanks are extended to Ms. Pornjai Bualuang, Head of the Medical Technology Laboratory, together with the Medical Technology laboratory staff, for their warm hospitality and for preparing a comprehensive clinical training program. Their dedication will provide Sean and Kyan with valuable hands-on experience across the major disciplines of medical technology throughout the next two months.
During their placement, the students will rotate through the Medical Technology Laboratory at Walailak University Hospital and its affiliated hospital, gaining practical experience in clinical chemistry, immunology, hematology, microbiology, blood transfusion science, microscopy, and parasitology, while also participating in academic activities with Walailak University students and faculty.
The School of Allied Health Sciences wishes Sean and Kyan every success throughout their clinical placement. We hope this program will strengthen their professional knowledge, clinical competencies, intercultural understanding, and international perspectives, while creating memorable experiences and lasting friendships during their time at Walailak University.
