The School of Allied Health Sciences, Walailak University organized the “Songkran Festival Celebration”

The School of Allied Health Sciences, Walailak University organized the "Songkran Festival Celebration"

On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, the School of Allied Health Sciences, through its mission on Academic Service and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), organized the event “SAH Unites to Celebrate and Preserve Thai Traditions on Songkran Day 2025”. The celebration took place at Fuengfah Meeting Room, Academic Building 7, School of Allied Health Sciences, Walailak University.

The event was graciously presided over by Dr. Mongkol Teerananond, Vice President of Walailak University, and was attended by the Dean, executive members, faculty, and staff of the School. The celebration took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, featuring a Buddhist chanting ceremony to bring blessings to all attendees, a traditional water-pouring ceremony to pay respects to elders, and the ceremonial bathing of a Buddha image, which symbolizes spiritual cleansing and renewal.

Songkran, the Thai New Year, is rooted in ancient beliefs about the transition of zodiac signs and is considered the official beginning of a new year according to Thai tradition. Traditionally, Songkran is celebrated within families, and at the School, which serves as a “second home” for its members, the same spirit of unity and reverence is upheld.

Water plays a central role in the ceremony, symbolizing purification and renewal. This tradition coincides with the movement of the sun into Aries, marking the height of the summer season. Pouring water over the hands of elders is a way of showing respect and seeking blessings, while sprinkling water among peers is a gesture of refreshment and good wishes for the year ahead.

Through this event, the School of Allied Health Sciences aims to foster a sense of community, preserve cultural values, and provide a meaningful opportunity for staff and faculty to connect, reflect, and celebrate the beauty of Thai heritage together.

SAH International Conference 2025 (SAHIC 2025)

SAH International Conference 2025 (SAHIC 2025)

On March 26, 2025, SAH proudly hosted the 4th School of Allied Health Sciences International Conference (SAHIC 2025) virtually. Themed “Innovations & Integrations: Shaping the Future of Global Allied Health Sciences,” the conference brought together experts, researchers, and students worldwide to explore advancements and collaborations in Allied Health Sciences.

Organized by esteemed research centers such as RECIHP, CERMM, HTSRC, and MOVE-SE, the conference featured distinguished speakers:

Keynote Speaker: Prof. Dr. Nazim Sekeroglu, Gaziantep University, Turkey (invited by Assoc. Prof. Jitbanjong Tangpong and RECIHP).

Guest Speakers:

Dr. Narcisse MS Joseph, Universiti Putra Malaysia (invited by CERMM).

Sr. Asst. Prof. Dr. Hjh Fazean Irdayati Hj Idris, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (invited by HTSRC).

Dr. Shinji Nemoto, Showa University, Japan (invited by MOVE-SE).

Dr. Ruchada Sri-amad and Dr. Suphasarang Sirirattanakul, SAH, Walailak University.

The conference also featured student presentations from Kyoto-Tachibana University, Chang Gung University, Walailak University, and Vietnam National University, fostering academic dialogue.

Associate Professor Dr. Voravuth Somsak, Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences, highlighted that this marks the fourth year the school has hosted the conference. Its purpose is to foster knowledge exchange and broaden perspectives through engagement with international experts. “We have to find ways to elevate education and research in Allied Health Sciences. Engaging with global experts helps us identify gaps and uncover new opportunities for progress,” he said.

The conference, held in a hybrid format, serves as a model for interdisciplinary cooperation across various fields. Dr. Voravuth explained that the event welcomes not only medical technologists and physical therapists but also doctors, pharmacists, engineers, and even marketers. Working together across disciplines can enhance healthcare services and drive meaningful innovations.

“For example, in the past, each profession operated independently. Today, patient care requires collaboration – medical technologists conduct blood tests, physical therapists contribute to rehabilitation, nurses promote treatment plans. At the same time, doctors oversee the entire process to ensure optimal patient outcomes.” Dr. Voravuth emphasized.

Additionally, the School of Allied Health Sciences showcased its innovations such as a culture medium that accelerates microorganism growth for faster diagnoses, the development of medicinal plant-based cosmetic products such as facial masks, cleansing gels, and acne spot treatments, and innovations aimed at improving the quality of life for the elderly as many countries transition into aging societies.

Throughout the event, distinguished guest speakers shared their expertise and research findings. Professor Dr. Nazim Sekeroglu from Gaziantep University, Turkey, discussed the global transition from chemical-based healthcare solutions to natural products, particularly in Europe and Turkey. He also highlighted the potential of herbal substances as antibiotics in animals, reducing chemical residues that could enter the human food chain.

Furthermore, Associate Professor Dr. Liu Yao from Kunming Medical University, China, presented research on the effects of Low-Intensity Focused Ultrasound on spasticity and the ERK/CREB signaling pathway, shedding light on advancements in non-invasive treatment methods. The conference also welcomed esteemed researchers, including Dr. Shinji Nemoto and Dr. Hiroyuki Ohtsuka from Showa University, Japan; Associate Professor Dr. Tang Xin from Kunming University, China; Dr. Narcisse MS Joseph from Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia; and Dr. Hjh Fazean Irdayati Hj Idris from UBD PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

Dr. Voravuth further revealed that beyond contributing to allied health sciences education and advancing research, the conference also enriches student experiences, helping them become familiar with an international environment, to be able to assess their strengths and weaknesses and identify the skills needed to compete globally.

WRC2025, an annual conference of Walailak University dedicated to presenting academic research, facilitating knowledge exchange, and fostering research collaborations, is now in its fourth year. This year’s convention marks Walailak University’s 33rd anniversary on March 29.

The official opening ceremony will be held tomorrow at the Thaiburi Building, featuring a keynote speech by Dr. Surachai Sathitkunarat, President of the Office of the National Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation Policy Council, Thailand. It will be followed by a panel discussion on blue carbon and sustainability with experts from leading universities in the UK, Malaysia, and Japan.
