On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, the School of Allied Health Sciences, Walailak University, organized the “Motivation Boost: Striding Towards Success in Licensing Exams” event for fourth-year Medical Technology students to prepare them for the professional licensing examination—a crucial step in their journey to becoming qualified medical technologists who meet professional standards.

 

This event was designed to help students assess their potential and establish a structured approach to exam preparation. It emphasized effective study techniques, time management strategies, exam practice, and stress management—all essential factors that contribute to exam success. Additionally, the event provided academic and professional skill development guidance, ensuring that students felt well-prepared and confident in their abilities.

 

During the event, students had the opportunity to exchange ideas and goals with their peers, fostering a motivating and supportive atmosphere. They also received valuable advice from faculty members and alumni who had previously taken the licensing exam. These alumni shared firsthand experiences, study techniques, and strategies for tackling different question types, providing insights that would help current students navigate the exam more effectively.

Motivational Boost: Striding Towards Success in the Licensing Exam

   

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the School of Allied Health Sciences at Walailak University hosted the “Motivational Boost: Striding Towards Success in the Licensing Exam” event for physiotherapy students. The event was held in the Phattharathammaporn meeting room in the Walailak University Hospital.

 

The event was officially opened by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Worawut Somsak, Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences The event was also supported by Asst. Prof. Dr. Anoma Santiworakul and Asst. Prof. Dr. Orawan Sarakul, both Vice Deans of the School, as well as the Subcommittee on Motivational Activities, who led the event. More than 72 fourth-year physiotherapy students participated in the activity.

This activity was created to provide students with strategic guidance for their licensing exam preparation, while also helping them set clear career goals. Additionally, it served as a platform for students to exchange perspectives, share inspiration, and encourage one another.

 

We hope that this activity will provide students with both academic knowledge and mental resilience, empowering them to achieve success in their upcoming licensing examination.

School of Allied Health Sciences Wins 2nd Runner-up in the "Voices of WU" Singing Contest

On February 5, 2025, Walailak University hosted the final round of the "Voices of WU" singing competition. The event was honored by Associate Professor Dr. Urai Jaraeprapal, Vice President of Walailak University, who presided over the opening ceremony, along with Assistant Professor Dr. Arthit Boonrodchu, Assistant to the President, faculty members, and over 1,000 students in attendance at the main auditorium of Thaiburi Building.

The competition featured three song categories: "Rak Walailak" (Love Walailak), "Kiatiphum Walailak" (Walailak’s Honor), and a song of the contestant’s choice. This year, students from various faculties enthusiastically participated in the contest. The results revealed that the School of Allied Health Sciences secured the 2nd runner-up award, reaffirming students' musical talents while adding vibrancy and pride to their faculty.

On January 20, 2025, the Physical Therapy Program, School of Allied Health Sciences, in collaboration with the Physical Therapy Clinic, School of Allied Health Sciences, and the Rehabilitation Medicine Clinic, Walailak University Medical Center Hospital, organized the “National Physical Therapy Day” under the theme “Healthy Aging: Walk Well, Stay Sharp, Stay Safe, and Be Cheerful,” reflecting the motto set by the Physical Therapy Council. The event was presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Vorawut Somsak, Dean of School of Allied Health Sciences, with an opening address by Assistant Professor Dr. Salila Cetthakrikul, Assistant Dean for Social Engagement and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

 

The event featured a keynote address by Mr. Pongthep Fungtrakun, Mayor of Tha Sala Municipality, highlighting the municipality’s role in elderly health care. A lecture titled “Dementia in the Elderly” was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Jirapath Navarattan, providing valuable insights. Fourth-year physical therapy students conducted an activity to promote physical movement, “Stay Strong: Balance Training for Seniors.”

 

Additionally, the event included physical therapy health screening stations offering services such as general health assessments, dementia risk screenings, and physical therapy treatments, receiving an enthusiastic response from attendees.

The event successfully attracted a large number of students, faculty members, and staff.

 

The event showcased various health-focused activities, including free health screening services such as blood type identification, anemia screening, blood sugar level testing, body mass index measurement, and urinary tract system screening, which were well-received by attendees. Participants also enjoyed a seminar led by Associate Professor Dr. Worawut Somsak, Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences. The seminar provided insights into holistic health care and practical advice for sustainable health promotion, ensuring attendees left with valuable knowledge.

Representatives from the Medical Technology Program, School of Allied Health Sciences, Walailak University, Win First Prize at the R2M Regional Competition, Advancing as Southern Representatives to the National Stage

The School of Allied Health Sciences congratulates Team Artemis on winning first place in the regional round (Southern region) of the R2M (Research to Market) 2024 competition, part of the 12th Innovation to Commercialization Pathway Project. Their project, titled “Helicobacter pylori Detection Test Kit,” was presented by Medical Technology students Mr. Tharathap Wijid, Ms. Anantaya Porasantisuk, and Ms. Chayanin Sriarunpannara. The team was advised by Assistant Professor Dr. Suebtarakoon Wisetsombat, a faculty member of the School of Allied Health Sciences.

 

The competition took place on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Sky Blue Auditorium, Administration Building, Southern Science Park, Songkhla Province.

NYCU Delegation Visits Walailak University for Academic Collaboration

On December 2, 2024, a distinguished delegation from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), Taiwan, visited the School of Allied Health Sciences at Walailak University, Thailand. The visit aimed to gain insights into the academic environment at Walailak University and to expand and strengthen collaboration between the two institutions.

 

The NYCU delegation included three prominent professors from the Department of Biotechnology and Laboratory Science in Medicine: Prof. Jason-C. Huang, an expert in viral infections and immunology; her colleague, Prof. Yih-Hsin Chang, known for her work on adipogenesis and metabolic diseases; and Prof. Shr-Jeng Leu, the Director of Clinical Laboratory at NYCU Hospital, who specializes in recombinant protein expression and cancer immunobiology.

 

During the visit, the NYCU team engaged in a panel discussion focused on staff and student mobility, particularly emphasizing student research training and graduate study programs. They toured Walailak University facilities, including smart classrooms and laboratories essential for medical technology education. The delegation also expressed interest in visiting the lab section of the Walailak University Hospital and explored the Physical Therapy clinic, allowing them to witness innovative healthcare practices firsthand.

 

The event was a collaborative effort led by Asst. President Suthasinee Sangkham and Assoc. Prof. Voravuth Somsak, Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences. Significant contributions came from Asst.Prof.Rachasak Boonhok, Asst Dean for International Affairs and Dr. Suphasarang Sirirattanakul, the Head of the event, and the dedicated SAH international affairs team. A heartfelt thank you is extended to all faculty members who participated in this event, as well as to the two Medical Technology students, Chinnakrit Claybut and Suttichai Tawkamwong, who assisted in organizing the visit and showcasing local Thai culture, including a taste of Southern Thai cuisine.

 

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Assoc. Prof. Jitbanjong Tangpong for his exemplary efforts in initiating this valuable collaboration. Additionally, we wish to thank Asst. Walailak University’s School of Allied Health Sciences warmly welcomed esteemed international guests during a special session aimed at strengthening academic and research collaboration. The event was graced by Asst. President Suthasinee Sangkhum; Asst. Prof. Patnarin Supakorn, Director of the Center for International Affairs; Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences, Voravuth Somsak; Vice Dean Asst. Prof. Orawan Sarakul; and Asst. Prof. Anoma Santiworakul, alongside faculty members from the School of Allied Health Sciences.

 

The honored guests included Asst. Prof. Hazel Anne Tabo from De La Salle University (DLSU), Philippines; Ms. Diana P. Mendonca from the University of Aveiro, Portugal; and Dr. Arutchelvan Rajamanikam and Dr. Kashini Jeya Pirathaba from the School of Medicine, University of Malaya, Malaysia.

 

Special thanks were extended to Prof. Veeranoot Nissapatorn for coordinating the visit and initiating discussions on short-term research training opportunities, particularly in Acanthamoeba and medicinal plant studies. This engagement opened doors to future collaborations, offering insights into research at the University of Malaya and De La Salle University.

 

The discussions were productive, sparking new ideas to advance human health and sciences and showcasing the graduate programs at the University of Malaya, which garnered interest from participants.

Prof. Julien Pompon Visits Walailak University to Enhance Research on Mosquito Vectors
Montpellier, France - Walailak University welcomed Prof. Julien Pompon from MIVEGEC-IRD for a five-day visit from October 22-26, 2024, initiated by Dr. Jiraporn Jaroenpool. The visit aimed to familiarize Prof. Pompon with the university's environment and research facilities while fostering collaboration on arboviruses ex. Dengue Virus, Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV), etc and mosquito vectors.
During his stay, Prof. Pompon delivered three insightful lectures that significantly enriched the faculty's understanding of viral transmission and the role of sfRNA in mosquito vectors. His expertise in effective manuscript preparation for high-impact journals was especially valuable, providing attendees with practical guidance on enhancing their publications.
The faculty members expressed gratitude for Prof. Pompon’s contributions, which have positively impacted their research capabilities. They also appreciated the warm hospitality extended by Dr. Suthasinee Sangkhum, Assistant to the President, and Asst. Prof. Patnarin Supakorn, CIA Director, as well as Assoc.
