As part of the MTH64-491E Specialized Skills Training course, Asst. Prof. Dr. Suriyan Sukati, faculty member and Secretary of International Affairs at the School of Allied Health Sciences, Walailak University, visited the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, College of Medicine, University of Kentucky (UK) from August 18–20, 2025. The visit focused on observing student training, engaging in academic discussions, and exploring opportunities for future collaboration.

This course provides third-year undergraduate students in the Medical Technology International Program at Walailak University with opportunities to undertake advanced research training in leading international laboratories. In 2025, Miss Pawanrat Tubnon and Miss Thanyaphon Phothong joined the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging for a four-month internship, from May 15 to September 15, 2025.

The training was conducted under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Pradoldej Sompol, Department of Pharmacology and Nutritional Sciences and Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, College of Medicine, University of Kentucky, whose research focuses on reactive astrocytes in age-related neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD). His laboratory investigates oxidative stress, vascular pathology, and neurovascular interactions using advanced intravital imaging, electrophysiology, and novel experimental models replicating combined AD and vascular pathology.

In addition, Ms. Rungruedee Kimseng, Research Scientist in his laboratory and Alumna of Medical Technology, School of Allied Health Sciences, Walailak University, contributed to the program by training and supporting the students during their internship.

The students also had the opportunity to visit the Department of Toxicology and Cancer Biology, where Asst. Prof. Dr. Luksana Chaiswing, Director of the Redox Metabolism Shared Resource at the Markey Cancer Center, provided instruction on the JESS Automated Western Blot System and introduced them to the Redox Metabolism Shared Resource Facility.

Through this collaboration, Walailak University students gain valuable exposure to cutting-edge neuroscience and translational research, while both institutions continue to strengthen academic cooperation and cultural exchange.
